AMPERSPACE GUIDES
How to prepare for electrical testing
You do not need technical knowledge. A few simple preparations help the appointment run smoothly and avoid unexpected interruptions to your day.
Explain what you want checked before the visit
Tell us whether you need a periodic inspection, verification after refurbishment, a pre-purchase check or testing after a fault. Mention problems such as tripping protective devices, faulty sockets or alterations made during refurbishment. Do not try to recreate a fault yourself.
If your building is managed by an owners' association or housing cooperative, check whether a whole-building inspection is already being arranged. This helps coordinate the scope and access to communal areas.
Provide access to the areas to be tested
Move items blocking the distribution board and agreed sockets and test points. Have keys ready for the rooms to be inspected. If part of the installation cannot be made safely accessible, tell us beforehand.
Do not dismantle accessories, remove distribution board covers or touch wiring. Technical preparation of the installation is the contractor's responsibility.
Agree power interruptions
Some checks require the power to be switched off. Plan the visit around remote work, home offices and equipment that needs a continuous supply.
Tell us in advance about medical equipment, alarms, servers, automation and other equipment requiring special arrangements. We will agree how to protect or disconnect it before testing. Do not switch it off yourself contrary to the manufacturer's instructions.
Gather the documents you have
- The previous test report and inspection recommendations.
- Details of repairs and alterations to the installation.
- Available drawings, circuit schedules or as-built documentation.
- Requirements of the party receiving the documentation, if testing is part of a project handover.
Missing an old report does not necessarily prevent the visit. Mention it when agreeing the scope so we can establish what information is needed on site.
What happens during and after testing?
The contractor will inspect the installation, carry out the agreed checks and record results and access limitations. Once the documentation is prepared, you will receive an assessment and recommendations. Ask which actions are urgent and which can be scheduled.
Keep the report with your repair records. Testing alone does not fix a defect. If remedial work is needed, its scope and any retesting should be agreed.
